Less Difficult Trade with India - the implications for Scotch Whisky

The much-heralded trade agreement announced this week with India sees a reduction on national import duty on Scotch whisky from a draconian 150% to a mere 75% in the near term (still pretty tough). It will evolve going forwards, but we wanted to take a close look at this market now that the deal has been done to examine the pros and cons of this new landscape. The mainstream press sees it as overwhelmingly positive, and it represents a boost to an industry that has had a tricky 6-months. As always, the reality may be slightly nuanced.
